Wolf Behavior Guide
Everything you need to know
Greetings, this is a friendly little guide placed to help you better understand how wolf behavior and tail posture plays into their daily communication. Hopefully with the help of the information below you can enhance your roleplay experience even further and perhaps even learn a bit! You are heavily encouraged to check back often to see if we've added more content as every day science learns more and more about our canine friends! Until then, all content is listed below with ample picture examples and descriptions of what we know. If you have any suggestions or improvements to the coding please message Va'shad and it'll be addressed as soon as possible.
TAIL HIGH
The tail high position indicates dominance. This position is often assumed by alpha male or female figures but can be used by wolves in lone encounters.
TAIL ERECT
The tail erect height indicates that a wolf is either going to attack or is in the process of hunting.
TAIL WAG
A wagging tail indicates is relaxed or friendly towards the target of their communication. A wagging tail can also be seen in a play bow which is an invitation to engage in playful behavior.
LAX TAIL
COMPLETELY LAX TAIL
A completely lax tail is an indication of complete relaxation. The wolf feels safe and is entirely calm.
HALF TUCKED TAIL
A wolf who has an half tucked tail and mildly arched back is showing submission to an alpha, this is an humbling gesture.
FULLY TUCKED TAIL
A wolf with a fully tucked tail and highly arched back is in great fear of a more dominant wolf. This can also be another submission to an alpha.
